Every morning in Bali, frangipani flowers fall from the trees and scatter across the ground. Even after separating from the tree, the flowers continue to play a role in everyday life. They are gathered for offerings, tucked behind ears, or simply accompany the steps of people passing by. Falling is not the end of their lives, but the beginning of a new journey and new relationships.

A Life of Its Own presents a frangipani flower in the form of an inflatable sculpture. With its soft shape and air-filled form, the flower seems to sustain its own breath of life. Surrounding it, oversized knitted forms spread across the floor and climb the walls, creating a network of interconnected loops. The knitting represents relationships that continue to grow through process, repetition, and encounters.

Inspired by the book Warna Bali, the work reflects on the idea that the meaning of colour is shaped by materials, traditions, and experiences, rather than symbols alone. Like a flower that continues to have a purpose after falling, meaning can evolve beyond its original form and context. The work explores the relationships between humans and nature, tradition and everyday life, and how something can find a life of its own through its connections with the world around it.
